Hints to resolve tensions in daily life - Swami Niranjanananda
Swami Niranajan recommends the practice of relaxation everyday before going to bed for each individual.
Hints to resolve tensions by Swami Nirnajan
When
you go to sleep at night, lie down on your bed- keep feet apart, arms beside the
body with palms facing up, head straight, close your eyes. And in that lying posture,
visualize the right leg. See each and every part of the right leg and relax the
right leg. Visualize the left leg, see each and every part of left leg and relax
it. Visualize the right arm, relax it. Visualize the left arm, relax it. Visualize
the trunk, the back, the chest, the neck, the throat, the face, the head and relax
it. It?ll take you five minutes but connect with the body, be aware of each and
every part of your body in your visualization. And in this 5 minutes time, you will
experience the deeper muscular relaxation a deeper nervous relaxation and a very
pleasant state of mind in which you are neither stressed out nor tired. And after
5 minutes of this practice, observe the breath, and watch the abdomen rise up and
down with the flow of the incoming and outgoing breath.
If you look at the structure of the lungs, then the air bags, these are called alveoli
are contained in the lower half of the lung. And it is here that when air goes in
the gases and the oxygen are separated from normal air and oxygen mixes with the
blood goes to heart. And it is here in the lower part of the lung where the alveoli
are that when you exhale, the toxic matter of the body, the carbon comes out. And
therefore the abdominal breathing is given much importance in yoga right from the
beginning and sciences today substantiated this fact. Why abdominal breathing has
to take place? Abdominal breathing increases absorption of oxygen and elimination
of carbon, elimination of toxins. And therefore when you practice breath awareness
after visualization of the different parts of the body, then you watch the rise
and fall of the abdomen and gradually when there is a rhythm, a harmonious movement
in the rise and fall of the stomach, at that time you start counting the breath.
Inhalation and exhalation is to be counted as one breath again inhalation and exhalation
is to be counted as second breath; and in this manner you count your breath from
100 back to one. And if your awareness sleeps, if you forget in 80?s, if you forget
the count in 70?s again start from 100. Again if awareness sleeps, start with 100
and come back to one with total awareness. And just this practice of relaxation,
you will find, will release stresses from the life and will give you good sleep
at night.
You see, when we sleep at night and we are not able to release the tensions, these
tensions continue to affect the subconscious and the unconscious. So when you wake
up in the morning, the tension is still there So the practice of relaxation will
surely help in removing distresses from our life...
